J Tomlinson starts work on latest school development

Contractor J Tomlinson has begun work on a scheme to build a new classroom block at Marriott Primary School in Leicester.

The company was awarded a design and build contract by Leicester City Council to develop the new two-storey, four-classroom modular building block to the north of the site.

Work will also include internal alterations and remodelling within the main block of the school to create a small hall/multipurpose space.

The new modular building is to be manufactured off-site, saving building time and reducing the number of site deliveries. It will be of low-carbon construction, with an entirely solar-panelled roof.

Pete Woods, managing director (refurbishment) at Nottingham-based J Tomlinson, said: “As a company, J Tomlinson has wide experience of working in the education sector, from primary schools through to universities. We’re currently managing the construction phase of The Mease Spencer Academy in Hilton, Derbyshire, and have recently delivered a refurbishment project at Haddon Primary School in Carlton, Nottingham.

“This project at Marriott Primary School is on a site surrounded by residential properties and will remain a ‘live’ school site while work is undertaken, so we have carefully planned deliveries, collections and other vehicular movements around school hours to minimise disruption and maximise safety.

“Using modular buildings, prefabricated elsewhere, means that we will need fewer site deliveries.”

In addition to the new block, the work will include internal remodelling of two classrooms within the main school building. Groundworks, infrastructure works, services, and connections to mains drainage are also being undertaken by J Tomlinson.

Work has just got underway, with the 22-week project expected to be completed in time for the new academic year.

Karon Wilford, business manager at Marriott Primary School, commented: “Everybody at Marriott Primary School is really excited by this project. Staff and children are looking forward to the extra space that is being created, as this is something that is very much needed!”

J Tomlinson provides a range of integrated building solutions including construction, refurbishment, repairs and maintenance, mechanical and electrical services (M&E), and facilities management. It operates primarily across the East Midlands, West Midlands and Yorkshire, with its head office at Beeston near Nottingham and an office at Canwell, near Sutton Coldfield, and another at Wakefield in Yorkshire.

The company works within many sectors, including education, supported living, care homes and senior living, health, commercial, industrial, blue light and heritage.

J Tomlinson hands over £6.5m luxury care home in Oxfordshire

The construction team at J Tomlinson has handed over a state-of-the-art £6.5m care home to developer, Hamberley Development.

Based in Cumnor, Oxfordshire, 70-bed Chawley Grove Care Home will provide residential, nursing and dementia care, with luxury facilities including a deluxe cinema, a health and beauty salon, a private dining suite, as well as en-suite bedrooms throughout.

The 16-month design and build project, which marks the second new-build care home J Tomlinson has successfully delivered on behalf of Hamberley, was completed on time and budget and opened to residents in early May.

J Tomlinson also constructed the marketing suite for the development, which was officially opened by Councillor Monica Lovatt, chairman of the Vale of White Horse District Council, in February.

The completed scheme marks the latest in a range of extra care projects undertaken by the construction, maintenance and refurbishment services partner, with a third, 43-bed West Midlands-based specialist care facility due to be handed over to Hamberley in October 2019. In addition, J Tomlinson’s commercial refurbishment division is also currently undertaking the refurbishment of Galanos House – a Warwickshire dementia care facility managed by the Royal British Legion.

Darroch Baker, managing director (construction) at J Tomlinson, commented: “J Tomlinson is delighted to have successfully handed over our second new-build care project on behalf of Hamberley Care. We have worked closely with our client and the wider project team to create a luxury facility with the resident experience at the forefront of our shared vision, and we hope residents flourish within their new environment.

“We are currently on site in Worcester, where we are working hard on the construction of another specialist care facility for Hamberley, which will mark the third scheme undertaken in partnership with our client.”

Tim Street, director of Hamberley Development, said Chawley Grove Care Home will be the leading high-quality care home in Oxford. “Having the right built environment is critical and we are proud to have gone the extra mile at Chawley Grove to produce a homely and luxurious building that will also facilitate the provision of outstanding care.”

Derbyshire hotel, wedding and leisure complex Morley Hayes has been named East Midlands Wedding Venue of the Year at the 2019 I Do Wedding Awards.

The venue on Main Road in Morley beat off fierce competition from venues across the region to win the coveted award, which was presented at a special awards evening at Sheffield City Hall.

Now in their fifth year, the I Do Magazine Wedding Awards celebrate success and recognise achievements of wedding suppliers from across the Midlands, Yorkshire and Humberside.

Dubbed the ‘People’s Awards’, they are decided entirely by the votes of the couples who have personally used their services.

The Wedding Venue of the Year award recognises those venues across the East Midlands that offer an exceptional wedding experience and go the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction.

Morley Hayes has been performing wedding ceremonies since 2006. In 2012 the venue was granted a licence to perform outdoor weddings in a specially constructed wedding dome, situated in the picturesque Morley Hayes gardens.

In 2017, Morley Hayes launched its woodland wedding service, which gives couples the chance to take their vows amongst wildflowers and beneath spectacular towering pines, horse chestnut and beech trees, with breath-taking views beyond.

Woodland wedding ceremonies take place in a private lodge, situated in a secluded part of the Morley Hayes woodlands. Guests can enjoy the intimate ceremony seated on oak benches, beside the old-fashioned lych-gate overlooking the woods.

New for Summer 2019 is The Meadow at Morley Hayes – a new woodland meadow area, where the wedding party can enjoy drinks and canapes following the ceremony. There are plans for blessings to take place in this area too.

Speaking of being crowned East Midlands Wedding Venue of the Year, Andrew Allsop, managing director of Morley Hayes, said:

“We’re so delighted to have been recognised with this prestigious award, especially as it is voted for by the couples themselves rather than a panel of judges.

“Your wedding day should be unforgettable experience and our dedicated team of wedding co-ordinators work hard to ensure the bridal party enjoy the perfect day.

“Whether it’s a wedding reception, a full civil wedding or civil partnership ceremony, we create a wedding package that is just as individual as our guests – creating a special day the bridal party will remember for the rest of their lives.”

Launched in 2009, I Do Magazine is read by more than 30,000 couples every year and is widely considered the definitive guide for sourcing the best local wedding suppliers in Yorkshire, Humberside and the Midlands.

I Do Wedding Awards are a good marker of a truly great supplier. Wherever a couple see an I Do finalist or winners logo, they instantly know they are getting top quality service and are about to work with a wedding supplier who has been highly recommended by other brides and grooms.

Set amongst 300 acres of beautiful woodland and parkland golf course, Morley Hayes is perfect for everything from a large family wedding to a small intimate ceremony. It has a selection of stylish country-inspired suites, fully licensed for civil marriage and partnership ceremonies.

It offers a complete package for weddings, golf and leisure breaks, conferences and functions. Facilities include a luxury four star, 32-bedroom hotel and a choice of three restaurants, including the award-winning two AA rosette Dovecote restaurant, Roosters and Spike Bar.

Golf facilities include a championship length 18-hole Manor course, 9-hole Tower course, a 17 bay, all weather floodlit driving range, golf pavilion and a highly respected Golf Academy.
