Multi-disciplinary design practice, rg+p has completed its first scheme for the UK’s leading retirement housebuilder, McCarthy and Stone.
Rosebud Court, a retirement living development on Westfield Road, Wellingborough, was recently opened to the public and includes 45 one and two bedroom apartments alongside a separate guest suite, homeowners’ lounge and communal landscaped gardens.
Following demolition of a disused factory previously occupying the site, the design for Rosebud Court provides a strong new frontage to Westfield Road, in keeping with the local environment. Design references were taken from an adjacent school building and surrounding housing, and the material palette of brick and render with stone sills is consistent with those in the area. A splayed feature bay gives a focal point for the corner of Rosebud Court’s entrance and further enhances the quality of the street.
“Rosebud Court occupies a position close to the centre of Wellingborough but is also located adjacent a local park; so it was designed to be both respectful of neighbouring properties and create an appealing outlook for residents,” explains associate architect, Rob Grewcock. “Many apartments have views over the private, south-facing garden area, which was created to facilitate both connectivity and independent living as much as possible.
“It’s always pleasing to see a project from an initial design concept through to completion and we hope the new homeowners at Rosebud Court will be very happy in their new homes.”
An AJ100 practice, rg+p’s partnership with McCarthy and Stone continues with construction nearing completion on a scheme in Wymondham, Norfolk where rg+p has been key in developing a new range of bungalows. Work has also recently started on a development in Peaker Park, Market Harborough and further designs are being completed for schemes in Cambourne, Woodhall Spa, Stalham and Quorn.
Cheryl Bissett, regional sales and marketing director at McCarthy and Stone East Midlands, commented: “At McCarthy and Stone we are committed to creating retirement communities that enrich the lives of older people and their families. At Rosebud Court homeowners can enjoy all the benefits of home ownership but with the added support that help is on hand should they need it, enhanced security features for added peace of mind, and an on-site team who take care of all the maintenance to communal areas and the gardens.
“McCarthy and Stone has partnered with rg+p on a number of projects across the East Midlands, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with them into the future, as part of our joint commitment to providing quality, sustainable retirement housing.”
