21 February 2017, Lincoln, UK – Local photographer and owner of leading commercial photography business, MarketingShotz, Rob Hill has been named “All-round Photographer of the year – 2016” by the Guild of Photographers. At the same Guild annual awards dinner, one of his images also won “Commercial Image of the Year – 2016”.
The Guild is a highly respected UK-based association for photographers with over 2000 members. Each year it runs a monthly photographic competition across a variety of genres with awards being given to the very best of the entries.
During the course of 2016 the competition attracted around 10,000 entries. Recently a full panel of highly esteemed judges from multiple association backgrounds assessed awards across several categories.
Rob’s image was chosen as the ‘Commercial Image of the Year – 2016’ from the finalist images in that category. Rob created a total of eight of the ten finalist commercial images and was winner as well as runner-up of the category.
Combining Rob’s scores for his commercial and portraiture work, he achieved the highest combined score in two categories, earning him the hard-fought title of “All-round Photographer of the Year – 2016”.
Guild Director, Lesley Thirsk, said “One of the Guild’s aims is to drive higher standards and creativity amongst photographers. Our monthly competition certainly does that, for the standard of the entries we see each month is quite staggering. To have an image recognised by the Guild in the monthly competition is difficult enough; so to win a category in the end of year final awards and be named as all-round winner is a quite remarkable achievement, and shows just how talented a photographer Rob is.”
Rob Hill added, “Photography is a highly competitive business and I am constantly honing my skills and techniques to develop the freshest imagery. One way of achieving that is to enter the Guild’s tough monthly competition where the images that achieve awards each month have to be exceptional. Knowing just how high those standards are, I am very proud to have won the Commercial category and be named All-round Photographer of the Year.”
