Planning has now been granted for Ratcliffe College’s brand-new second sports hall, which will provide modern and spacious facilities for students throughout the College.
The new sports hall has been designed by Midlands architecture firm Franklin Ellis Architects and is being built by Spondon-based Pure Construction, both of which worked with Ratcliffe to build the £4.5m Preparatory School in 2015.
Ratcliffe College, a co-educational, day and boarding school for students aged 3 to 18, is located in 180 acres of rolling Leicestershire countryside. The College’s Preparatory School, which was crowned Building of the Year by the Charnwood Borough Council in 2015, was created to accommodate an increasing number of students aged between 3 and 11 and provide them a unique, modern environment in which to learn and grow.
The 1,460 sq m sports hall is the second sports hall at Ratcliffe College and will enable the College, in particular the Preparatory School, to develop further its growing reputation for sporting excellence.
The sports hall is expected to be completed in September 2019, and will be equipped with a function room for hosting match teas, changing facilities and a viewing gallery.
Jon Crabb, associate partner at Franklin Ellis Architects, said: “It’s wonderful to see the final phase of works to the College’s Preparatory School underway. The team at Ratcliffe College had a fantastic vision for the Preparatory School site and it has been a privilege to help them bring it to life.
“The new sports hall will give Ratcliffe College’s youngest students the opportunity to learn and practice a wide variety of sports at a state-of-the-art facility and we look forward to seeing the finished product in 2019.”
Headmaster, Mr Jonathan Reddin, commented: “We are delighted that we will be able to nurture the sporting gifts and talents of our students further by providing this wonderful state-of-the-art facility. The new Sports Hall is being built to accommodate the requirements of children across the age range so that everyone’s needs can be fully fulfilled. We are so pleased that Pure Construction won the tender and have the opportunity to build the second phase of the Preparatory School project, having built the fabulous new Preparatory School which opened in 2014. We look forward to sharing our new facility with the local community as we further develop partnerships with other local schools.”
