Local manufacturer of windows, doors and conservatory roof systems, Frame Fast UK, is sponsoring Poppies: Weeping Window when it comes to Derby from 9 June to 23 July 2017. The handmade ceramic poppies will be on display at Derby’s Silk Mill as part of #Poppiestour.
Poppies: Weeping Window is a cascade made up of several thousand ceramic poppies. They were seen covering the wall and surrounding grounds of the Tower of London as part of the installation, Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red. The poppies originally marked 100 years since the first full day of World War One. Many of the poppies are now on tour across the UK.
Nigel Leivers, Director at Frame Fast UK says: “The ceramic poppies were such an iconic part of the 100-year remembrance of World War One and as they were made in Derby, it’s great that they are coming to the city.
“We’re giving our support and sponsoring the Poppies: Weeping Window because it’s going to be good for everyone in the city to be able to come and see the sculpture at the Silk Mill which is a great part of the city’s heritage.
“It’s important to be involved in events like Poppies: Weeping Window because it’s so special for everyone involved and for the people of Derby.”
Derby sculptor Paul Cummins and his team designed and hand-crafted all the ceramic poppies in their workshop on Pride Park in Derby. The poppies will hang down from the Silk Mill from 9 June to 23 July this Summer. The sculpture is free to visit.
