Works to the first venue in the UK to offer a fully licensed, cocktail bar and escape rooms under one roof have reached completion.
Spirits Bar on Hotel Street in Leicester, is a unique concept in the UK market and a first for the city. The bar, which will officially open on 15 June, has also partnered up with its neighbour and restaurant franchise Oscar & Rosie’s to offer its famous pizza to visitors.
Spirits Bar and Escape Asylum are being launched by the current owners of Escape Asylum on St Martins Square; Dan Walford, and brother and sister Selina and Grant Topp.
Specialising in cocktails, Spirits Bar’s creations are split into three groups; Classics, which are familiar favourites such as Mojito and Cosmopolitan, House Specialities, which allow Spirits to put its own twist on traditional cocktails such as Bitter Orange Mojito and the deliciously sweet Cherry Bakewell, and Featured Cocktails, which are themed on each of the venues escape rooms. These will be the most eye catching with dry ice, fire, and colour changing concoctions.
Number one rated escape room, Escape Asylum, will provide four new escape games that will be available for visitors including King Richard, Phobia and Narcos themed rooms. There was planning to have five rooms, but plans changed when the onsite builders who were creating the unique venue reported unusual occurrences and eventually refused to carry on working in that fifth room.
Dan said: “We opened the first ever escape room in Leicester two years ago, and after the success of our first Escape Asylum, we were keen to introduce further sites and expand on our offering. The facility combines a high-end cocktail bar with several escape rooms – something that hasn’t been done anywhere else in the UK so we are excited to be offering this concept to the local community.
“We are pleased to be investing further into this stunning and up and coming city. Leicester has a very creative and historic background and we hope that Spirits Bar and Escape Asylum will compliment that. We have some cool new escape rooms on offer and we can’t wait to showcase this project of ours to the public.
“I’d like to thank Fraser Brown Solicitors who helped us obtain the lease for the premises, without them our expansion plans and vision wouldn’t have become a reality.”
The new bar and escape rooms will bring 30 new jobs to the city, including bar staff, escape room game masters, receptionist and management positions. The owners aim to open a further three escape rooms and bar branches, similar to this one, by the end of 2019 across the UK.
Liam Wilkinson, associate in the commercial property team at Fraser Brown, helped to secure the lease of the property on behalf of Dan, Selina and Grant.
Liam said: “This concept is an exciting new addition to Leicester, and I am very pleased to have had the opportunity to work on it with the owners.
“The bar looks incredible inside and I love the weird and wonderful escape rooms. I’m sure, judging by the success of their first escape rooms, that this will be extremely popular and will encourage more visitors to the city. I’d like to wish them all the best of luck in this new business venture.”
