The UK National Office of automotive technology manufacturer DENSO has reimagined its workspace, taking inspiration from London and transport themes. That’s all thanks to the stunning designs created by workspace consultancy 360Degrees for the new DENSO Sales UK Ltd. Office, just North of London in Hemel Hempstead.
The company relocated its UK sales office and saw the opportunity to bring something very different to DENSO’s usual style.
“The company environment internationally tends to follow a clean look, following the example of our headquarters in Japan. We wanted to do something more contemporary to inspire our team following the move,” says Damian Tersigni, Senior Sales Manager at DENSO Sales UK Ltd.
DENSO chose 360Degrees because it was impressed by the company’s approach to design.
“360Degrees understood what we wanted to achieve, listened to our views and challenged us with some exciting new ideas.”
“They brainstormed some fantastic concepts, which make bold use of graphics and other decorative effects. Their willingness to share visual ideas, like a 3D CAD walk-through, helped us to see how stunning our workspace would look.”
A unifying London theme highlights the office’s proximity to the capital, with working areas and meeting rooms inspired by different parts of London’s landscape and culture.
One meeting rooms is inspired by Abbey Road, including a full-width graphic showing that iconic Beatles album cover. Another looks like Leicester Square tube station – to capture the experience of being in an Underground station, walls are decorated in printed vinyl with a curved tile effect, while the flooring mimics the look of paving stones.
360Degrees has even brought the outdoors into a windowless meeting room. “There’s a glass partition connecting this room to the rest of the office, and we didn’t want our team looking through it to a featureless wall. So 360Degrees transformed it using a ‘Green Park’ theme. There’s a graphic showing a view of Buckingham Palace framed by trees, and the effect continues to the floor by using green grass effect carpets.”
Workspaces, too, have been transformed. The hot desking area is designed to resemble a bus stop, with a graphic of an iconic London double-decker bus, an actual telephone box and even yellow double lines along the floor.
DENSO’s automotive roots haven’t been forgotten. “We sponsor the Toyota team in World Endurance Championship and 360Degrees has helped us bring some of that excitement into the office. We have Anthony Davidson’s actual race suit from Le Mans behind a Perspex case in our canteen.”
The reaction from staff and visitors has been superb. “People love it! It’s a radical rethink of how our offices look, but it’s done exactly what we wanted – it inspires, motivates and brings everybody together. I would definitely recommend 360Degrees and, in fact, DENSO Sales UK Ltd. is already planning another project with them in the Midlands.”
